Most Candidates Take Two or Fewer Days to Decide Which to Accept

TORONTO, April 30, 2019 /CNW/ - Companies shouldn't assume their employment offer is a candidate's only option, new research suggests. A survey of workers from global financial recruitment firm Robert Half Finance & Accounting found that nearly half of job seekers in Canada (49 per cent) have received two or more offers simultaneously when applying for jobs.

The competition for top talent is tough, and candidates rarely wait long when they receive a great offer. A majority of professionals surveyed (71 per cent) reported making their decision in two or fewer days. The top five reasons job seekers accepted one offer over another include:

  1. Salary
  2. Benefits
  3. Position's responsibilities or challenges
  4. Commute
  5. Advancement potential

"Chances are one manager's ideal candidate is someone else's as well ― which is why it's crucial that businesses put their best foot forward and act quickly to successfully land the talent they need," said David King, senior district president for Robert Half.

"While competitive salary and benefits packages remain crucial, promoting what makes their company a great place to work needs to be an ongoing focus for hiring managers hoping to tip the scales in their favour," added King.  "Applicants are moving quickly to decide between offers, and organizations with a reputation for supporting their staff's individual needs and professional goals will stand out for their commitment to the satisfaction and success of their employees."
