Robert Half Survey Finds It Takes CFOs Average of Four Weeks to Fill Finance Positions

TORONTO, April 17, 2014 /CNW/ - Four weeks is a long time to be short-staffed, but that's what it takes, on average, to fill an open staff-level accounting and finance role, according to a new survey of chief financial officers (CFOs). The Robert Half Finance & Accounting survey also found it takes an average of nine weeks to fill a management-level position.

The survey was developed by Robert Half Finance & Accounting, the world's first and largest specialized financial recruitment service, and conducted by an independent research firm. It is based on interviews with more than 270 CFOs from a random sample of Canadian companies.

CFOs were asked, "On average, how many weeks does it typically take to hire for an open staff-level accounting or finance position?" The mean response was four weeks.

CFOs were also asked, "On average, how many weeks does it typically take to hire for an open management-level accounting or finance position?" The mean response was nine weeks.

"To find top performers, companies need to make recruitment an ongoing priority, even when they're not actively looking to hire or to fill a role," said Greg Scileppi, president of Robert Half, International Staffing Operations. "Building and maintaining a solid pipeline of potential candidates is an effective way of ensuring that when there is demand for additional staff support, precious time and resources aren't spent on a long hiring process."

Scileppi added that working with a professional recruitment firm can give businesses access to individuals with in-demand skills, while streamlining the process and limiting disruption to the day-to-day operations of the company. "Building relationships with staffing professionals can help bridge the gap between companies and the hard-to-find candidates the organization needs to reach their business goals, including those not actively engaged in the job market." he said. "By performing skill evaluations and conducting initial interviews, recruiters help fill positions quickly, enabling hiring managers to focus on their other priorities."
